There will be live music, DVD viewing, snacks and a Meet & Greet with Nerissa & Katryna Nields. Several supporting cast members will also be present for autographs and photos.
Organic Farm DVD is a project that celebrates music, family and community in Western Massachusetts. Much of the DVD was recorded in a studio with a good number of Western MA kids in the audience, with additional scenes shot at Town Farm, the Smith Vocational High School barn, and at Hootenanny, Nerissa and Katryna’s weekly kids music class. The DVD has lots of local family connections, and the event should be some good clean fun for kids and their bigger sidekicks!

Nerissa & Katryna write: Our greatest goal is to pass on all the music and musicality that was given to us. We hope that our family music convinces you to dust off that old guitar in the corner and play again. The DVD should encourage this kind of behavior. Though our dear friend and professional filmmaker, Ed McKeon, was at the helm of Organic Farm (along with his twin 5 year old boys) we also called upon every member of our families to help us out. Along with the Cracker Jack band, we were joined by our father and mother, all four of our kids and both of our husbands. Most of the DVD was recorded in one day at the TV station at the University of Hartford. But we wanted to add a little joy and chaos to the whole experience. So, Henry Chalfant, (father of Nields guitarist and producer Dave Chalfant, and grandfather to Amelia and William, and also incidentally an award winning filmmaker ––Style Wars), drove up from NYC with a fancy camera and shot footage at Nerissa’s organic CSA, Town Farm, and on Nerissa’s front porch. Our mother, Gail Nields, historian and author, brought her grandchildren and Nerissa’s little digital camera over to Smith Vocational-Agricultural School to film the real Molly the Donkey. We topped it all off with a visit to Drury Lane. Wait until you see the breakfast boy. He is adorable.
We were almost done then, but we realized that we still needed a little more joy, so we called upon the families who take our HooteNanny music classes here in the happy valley. They obliged beautifully, dancing up a storm in the Northampton Friends Meetinghouse; jumping up and kicking a hole in the sky with Anna and wiggling with glee while thinking about mangos on the Mango Walk.
We are so pleased with the end result. We recommend making every member of your family a guitar out of cardboard. Strap it on before the movie begins and play along the whole time. That’s how we do it chez Nields.
