ABOUT CHERYL WHEELER

If your idea of a folk singer/songwriter concert is a bunch of people clapping politely after songs, and then sitting quietly while the performer says things like “This next song is about …”, well, you’ve never seen a Cheryl Wheeler concert before. Cheryl’s concerts are more like what you would find at a comedy club than a folk concert. She will tell a story that has you rolling in the aisles, and then sing a song that leaves you wiping tears from your eyes. She will talk about some serious current event, and then sing a song that will have you howling with laughter. This is why she sells out two Iron Horse shows every year. www.cherylwheeler.com

We have been listening to Elizabeth Mitchell’s “You are my little bird” continuously for months now. I will recommend her version of Bob Marley’s “Three Little Birds”, which is on that album.

My son’s new favorite is Hey, Hey, Hey by Michael Franti. I couldn’t be happier! I’ve been listening to the new album a lot after November’s shows at the Calvin and I guess he just really likes that one, which is okay with me!

Am I allowed to repeat what has already been said? Ghandi/Buddha may be my favorite song from any artist, especially the “alternate” verse. And the Potato song always cracks me up! I was singing it to myself just the other day while walking the dog and laughing to myself. I was the crazy laughing dog-walking lady!

Cheryl Wheeler is AMAZING – she’s somehow able to be both funny and poignant all in one breath. So many of her songs are my favorites, but I’ll go with Ghandi/Buddha as my pick for a community playlist!
