Celebrating the Year of the Red Fire Pig

February 18, 2007 is the first day of the Lunar and Chinese New Year, the year of the Red Fire Pig. In years past hilltown families have gathered to share and discover the customs of celebration for this yearly holiday. It proved to be a great opportunity to educate our children and community of families about a holiday with which many were unfamiliar.

Also of interest is that the town of Shelburne Falls has a sister village in China Mutianyu. At the Childrens Art Museum in March the monthly theme is Our Friends Around the World. We will be coordinating an art exchange with the children of Mutianyu where the artwork will be on permanent display at the schoolhouse there. Mutianyu welcomes approximately 1.6 million visitors a year as tourists pass through the village to visit the Great Wall. (…stay posted for more information on this cultural exchange…)
