I moved from San Diego, CA to Hadley, MA last summer with my husband and now 18 month old daughter. It’s been quite the change and adjustment! Modeling self-care with an 18 month old is challenging. I’m a SAHM, and she’s a very busy and active girl with lots of needs! A few ways I’m able to work it in though are attending two mom groups a week that offer childcare so I can get my adult time and she gets some socializing too. I’m also able to socialize with these women outside of our groups too! I recently committed to exercising more (or at all for that matter) and have started an at-home program that I can do with her here – while she’s awake or napping – I’m making that a priority so I feel better and have more energy to parent! Another main way I model self-care is letting Dad help and do morning and bedtime with her almost every day so that I can get some me time!

Hilltown Families has greatly helped us learn about resources and activities around the Pioneer Valley and ways to get involved in the local community. I look forward to receiving the newsletter each week in order to see what’s coming up that we can participate in! Many things that we do and try out have been because of Hilltown Families – it’s an invaluable resource for people new to the area! Thank you so much!!

What a wonderful opportunity! I would love to attend this event, especially since I couldn’t make the first one a few months ago.

For me, self care is a tricky thing! I absolutely love what I do, so I often find myself working long hours and being very dedicated to my missions and that can easily lead to feeling a little depleted especially physically. What makes this tricky is because the self-care I model is not just for the things that may seem obvious to some (like taking a break, a relaxing bath, a much needed massage, etc). Self care, for me, also includes permission to allow my big dreams and my passions to lead me when my soul calls for it. NOT to beat myself up for making sacrifices if that’s what needs to happen to live fully into these dreams and desires of mine. I want my daughter to know that it’s ok to prioritize HER passions and chase her dreams and have goals that she can unapologetically pursue. And sometimes that means putting myself first in order to get my vision for myself and our family to come into alignment.

That’s one of the reasons I love Hilltown Families so much is that it makes me feel connected to all the other events, happenings and vibrant families around me! I learn about beautiful events like this one and lots of others that make me feel supported as a mother, a partner and a local entrepreneur. I’m a mom from South Hadley who works in Hadley at our new Family Forward Coworking Space.
