Celebrate all things local and agricultural at the WGBY Asparagus Festival on the Hadley Town Common Saturday, June 3 from 10am to 6pm. This outdoor, family-friendly event offers character meet-and-greets with PBS Kids’ Curious George, outdoor learning games and displays, live children’s music in the am (pop/folk music in the p.m.), and many local food and beverage vendors. Parents can enjoy the farmers/makers market, the local craft beer tent, or the gourmet Chef Spearit Lunch (tickets sold separately for the this). A dance performance for the whole family! The Center Dance Studio proudly presents “The Enchanted Bookshelf,” a captivating tale of friendship, courage, and the healing power of a good book. Sunday, June 4th at Amherst Regional High School. Curtain rises at 5PM. Purchase tickets online or at the door. FREE for kids 12 and under. At The Center, children spin stories from movement using classical and modern dance techniques. Sister duo Ashley and Caddy Carlisle combine their years of dance training in the Pioneer Valley, New York City, and Montreal with a special approach to teaching that gets kids reading, writing and dancing; connecting, collaborating and creating. It’s a holistic approach to dance.

Kathryn Kothe Roszko of CyclePottery along with two assistants will teach kids ages 9+ how to throw plates, bowls, mugs, and more on the potter’s wheel. Campers will also learn hand building, trimming, decorating & glazing techniques. 4-6 students max. Camp is held in her studio in Florence. 7 sessions throughout the summer, with various options from 3-5 days, 9am-3pm. First 5 day camp begins June 12th! Plus tour the Atlas greenhouses, have lunch, sample food from local vendors, listen to music and more. Fast, slow, young, old…Whole Children wants to take you on a Wild Goose Chase! The Wild Goose Chase to benefit Whole Children will be held at Look Park on Sunday, May 21, from 10am-1:30pm, and is an inclusive family event for all ages and abilities. There will be race invents, including a chip-timed 5K race and a just-for-fun 1.2 mile race, as well as a slew of kids’ races. There will also be a carnival, featuring music and live performances, food trucks, face painting, games, prizes, hula-hooping, horse-drawn wagon rides, and more. Peppa Pig’s Big Splash, Peppa’s theatre tour will visit Springfield’s Symphony Hall on Sunday, May 7, at 2pm. In Peppa Pig’s Big Splash, the nursery roof is leaking and Peppa and her friends need to fix it quickly. They set up a fair to raise money so Mr. Bull can do the repairs. There’s plenty of fun to be had as Peppa, George, Mummy and Daddy Pig, Danny Dog, Pedro Pony and Suzy Sheep organize an exciting day out complete with a Champion Puddle Jumping Competition judged by Mr. Potato, where everyone gets wet! An interactive experience full of singing, dancing, games, and muddy puddles, it’s a blast for the whole family. Spend the day in the driver’s seat playing with all the buttons and levers, trying on firefighters’ bunker gear, moving mulch in a mini tractor, and so much more. Want to win free tickets? Download the coloring page and send a masterpiece to be entered into a drawing for free tickets. All entrants’ artwork will be displayed at the event. Contest is open to ages 12 and under. Sunday, April 23, come to The Games on the Common where community joins college athletes to play bocce, badminton, and croquet. A festival honors international students on April 8 on the common. On April 22, The Dessert Crawl benefit for non-profit Reader to Reader offers a chance to try 10 desserts for $10. The Sustainability Festival on the Common has music, demonstrations, and presentations on sustainable strategies. Amherst ChalkWalk on April 29 offers the chance to decorate the sidewalks to win special gift prizes. The annual Daffodil Run on April 30 has special awards for silly costumes and a cookout follows at Kendrick Park.

The Blue Heron Restaurant will celebrate the arrival of spring with their annual farm-to-table Easter brunch buffet on Sunday, April 16, 2017. Seatings are available every half hour from 11am to 4pm. The Sustainability Festival on the Common has music, demonstrations, and presentations on sustainable strategies. On April 9th, American Liberty Ballet presents “Sylvia ou la Nymphe de Diane,” an original 3 act ballet choreographed by Valerie Mae Browne. Since 1876 only 12 choreographers have ever tackled this difficult ballet: taking stage at the Academy of Music. Set to the romantic score of Léo Delibes, Sylvia is a classical ballet set in an Arcadian forest, where a shepherd boy falls in love with a huntress nymph loyal to the goddess Diana. When arrows and hearts go awry, deities intervene to save Sylvia, in this captivating mythological love story. Sylvia is played by Bolshoi trained ballerina Natasha Sheptalova. The Blue Heron Restaurant will celebrate the arrival of spring with their annual farm-to-table Easter brunch buffet on Sunday, April 16, 2017. Seatings are available every half hour from 11am to 4pm. Connecticut Trolley Museum will hold Easter Bunny Fun Days on April 8th, 9th, 14th & 15th. The Easter Bunny will be roaming the grounds and posing for pictures from 11am-3pm. Each child will receive an Easter egg with a surprise inside when they complete an Easter Scavenger Hunt. Additionally, there will be face painting from 11am-3pm and a Make & Take art craft. Take as many trolley rides as you would like operated by period dressed motormen. Inside the Visitor Center, you will find more static trolley cars and artifacts, a theater showing a short film about trolleys and a gift shop to buy that ‘special’ souvenir. Saturday, March 18, from 10am-12noon at Flywheel Arts Collective, Hilltown Families and the Flywheel Arts Collective are continuing the Saturday Morning Music Party series with a breakfast bash featuring food, dancing, and diversions for kids! After a free breakfast of fresh pancakes, juice, and fruit, Scotty Swan will present The Fuzznogginz Puppet Party! This will be a combination of a magic AND puppet show together in one big spectacular extravaganza! There will be lots of comedy, funny puppetry, and amazing magic combined with plenty of audience participation. Audience members are invited to come on stage to become puppeteers and learn how a puppet show works.We’ll round out the morning with DJ Youthelectronix for the “best ever dance party before noon!” This is a fundraiser for both Flywheel & Hilltown Families, with a “pay what you can” admission to attend with your family!

Celebrate spring with The Very Hungry Caterpillar on Sunday, March 19 from 12noon-4pm at The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art in Amherst, MA. Enjoy a Wiggle Jiggle Dance Party down the Great Hall with the beloved Caterpillar, a special studio art project, storytimes and films, and search for the Caterpillar’s favorite foods in a museum-wide scavenger hunt. Whately Elementary preschool program is now accepting applications for the fall of 2017! They are happy to announce the expansion of their existing program to a full-day, full-week experience for children aged 3-5 years old. Whately offers a small integrated preschool experience serving a mixed age population. Oasis Camp offers specialty programs for children from 3 years old to 6th grade! With amazing facilities at Smith College, Oasis features mature staff with low camper/staff ratio and a warm environment where kids can participate in activities tailored to their interests! The Early Start camp for kids 3 years to Kindergarten offers sports, daily Red Cross swim, arts, dance, theater and a Ready for September enrichment program. The Traditional Camp (1st- 6th graders) is designed to provide campers with sports crafts, theater, dance and Red Cross Instructional and Recreational Swim to further develop skills and confidence. Hilltown Families Events

Hilltown Families is hosting a new Service-Learning Micro-Event Series featuring “Acts of Kindness” volunteer stations for families at multiple locations this winter! The first Service-Learning Micro-Event will take place on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at the Amherst Winter’s Farmers’ Market (Amherst Regional Middle School, 170 Chestnut Street). Families will have an opportunity to stop by our pop-up volunteer station anytime between 10am-2pm to create handmade valentines to be distributed to seniors in the community.  If interested in volunteering to run the station for a 60-minute block, please sign up here (sign-up is first come, first served)!

It’s that time of the year again for the Hilltown Families Annual Handmade Valentine Swap! For the past nine years Hilltown Families has coordinated a community Handmade Valentine Swap — and we’re doing it again! Making handmade valentines is a great way to push against the commercialization of yet another holiday, while being creative with your family and friends. JOIN US! It’s free to sign up and open to all families in western Massachusetts! Last year our community generated over 1,550 handmade valentines! Let’s do it again! Deadline to sign-up is Wed. Feb 1st!

Montessori Comes to Forbes Library: On Friday, January 13, at 11am, bring your child to a visit with Montessori School of Northampton educator Laura Frogameni. The hour will include time to explore Montessori materials, circle time and a story. The Forbes Library is located at 20 West Street in Northampton. On New Year’s Day (Jan 1), Hilltown Families and the Flywheel Arts Collective are continuing the beloved ‘Morning Music Party’ series for another year with a breakfast bash featuring food, dancing and diversions for kids! This year, we are starting off this family series on New Year’s Day, Sunday, January 1, with a First Day Morning Music Party from 10am-12noon in Easthampton, MA. Come enjoy a breakfast bash featuring free pancakes and an awesome dance party for all ages! It takes place at Flywheel in Easthampton’s old Town Hall. This event is a fundraiser for both Flywheel & Hilltown Families, with a “pay what you can” admission to attend with your family. So much cheaper than a night out on the town and just as much fun!

Local Organic Christmas Trees! Justamere Tree Farm in Worthington, MA, has cut your own and pre-cut Christmas trees available Friday, Saturday, & Sunday after Thanksgiving, and weekends in December. On New Year’s Day (Jan 1), Hilltown Families and the Flywheel Arts Collective are continuing the beloved ‘Morning Music Party’ series for another year with a breakfast bash featuring food, dancing and diversions for kids! This year, we are starting off this family series on New Year’s Day, Friday, January 1, with a First Day Morning Music Party from 10am-12noon in Easthampton, MA. Come enjoy a breakfast bash featuring free pancakes and an awesome dance party for all ages! It takes place at Flywheel in Easthampton’s old Town Hall. This event is a fundraiser for both Flywheel & Hilltown Families, with a “pay what you can” admission to attend with your family. So much cheaper than a night out on the town and just as much fun!

This joyful event will feature Karina Zilberman from the 92St Y in New York and is for children ages 0-5 and their grownups. As an alternative to traditional holiday buying, the Hilltown Cooperative Charter Public School will host a fair on Saturday, December 3 from 10am-3pm at 1 Industrial Parkway in Easthampton. Visitors will have the opportunity to make a variety of crafts including fairy houses, wreaths, gingerbread people, tote bags and more. Concurrently with craft-making will be the annual Scholastic Book Fair, special performances by the Student Chorus, a bake sale and a raffle. CT Trolley Museum presents Winterfest 2016 and “The Tunnel of Lights” beginning Friday, November 25. Whether you ride a closed car or brave the cold to ride the open “electric sleigh,” they promise you a good time and one that you’ll remember for years. Join your motormen in singing traditional Christmas carols as the trolley makes its way through the “Tunnel of Lights.” When you return, head inside the Visitors Center which has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland complete with model trains, decorations galore and you can even buy a delicious cup of hot cocoa to sip as you enjoy the entertainment. Additionally, meet and pose for a picture with Santa and he will also have a gift for each child.

The New England Air Museum will hold its annual Santa Claus Visit & Behind the Scenes Tours special event on Friday, November 25, the day after Thanksgiving. Santa Claus will meet with kids in a Sikorsky helicopter between 11am-3pm. Photos are encouraged and Santa will distribute a special gift to each child. Families will also have the opportunity to create holiday cards for members of the U.S. military. Additional family fun activities include hands-on Build & Fly Challenges, Aircraft Quest Scavenger Hunts, and computerized Flight Simulators. The museum will also offer special “Behind the Scenes” tours of the Restoration Facility that day, giving visitors a rare opportunity to take a close-up look at current aircraft restoration projects.

As an alternative to traditional holiday buying, the Hilltown Cooperative Charter Public School will host a fair on Saturday, December 3 from 10am-3pm at 1 Industrial Parkway in Easthampton. Visitors will have the opportunity to make a variety of crafts including fairy houses, wreaths, gingerbread people, tote bags and more. Concurrently with craft-making will be the annual Scholastic Book Fair, special performances by the Student Chorus, a bake sale and a raffle. The Nields, Pioneer Valley folk and rock favorites, will perform a special show for all ages at a Saturday Morning Music Party fundraiser for Hilltown Families and the Flywheel Arts Collective on Saturday, November 19, from 10am-12noon at Flywheel (43 Main St.) in Easthampton, MA. Doors open at 10am with a free pancake breakfast, followed by a family performance by The Nields from 11am-12noon. Admission is $12/Adult; $6/Kids ages 3-6; $35/Families of 4 or more. All proceeds benefit the FCTS Music Department and award-winning FCTS Renegades Drumline. Everyone Has a Voice concert, Northampton – Enjoy an afternoon of song as Whole Children’s Joyful Chorus teams up with Sarah Lee Guthrie & Johnny Irion to perform songs by Sarah Lee’s grandfather, Woody Guthrie, and other folk legends! The Everyone Has a Voice concert takes place on Sunday, November 20, 3pm, at First Churches of Northampton. The concert unites singers with and without disabilities to work toward the common goal of performing in concert. Whole Children is a Pathlight program and provides social and recreation programs for kids and teens of all abilities, particularly those with special needs. Holiday Happenings: Friday, November 25 from 10-5pm at the Springfield Museums. The Springfield Museums’ annual GingerbreadExhibit is one of the region’s best-loved traditions! This year’s theme is “HolidayMagic,” with gingerbread creations inspired by everyone’s favorite boy wizard. The exhibit’s will open on Friday, November 25th with a special “Holiday Happenings,” featuring a full day of family activities, performances, appearances by The Grinch, and the Lighting of the Quadrangle at 5pm. CT Trolley Museum presents Winterfest 2016 and “The Tunnel of Lights” beginning Friday, November 25. Whether you ride a closed car or brave the cold to ride the open “electric sleigh,” they promise you a good time and one that you’ll remember for years. Join your motormen in singing traditional Christmas carols as the trolley makes its way through the “Tunnel of Lights.” When you return, head inside the Visitors Center which has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland complete with model trains, decorations galore and you can even buy a delicious cup of hot cocoa to sip as you enjoy the entertainment. Additionally, meet and pose for a picture with Santa and he will also have a gift for each child.

On Saturday, November 12, the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT, will hold its annual Veterans Day Tribute to Veterans and Active Military from 10am-4pm. Families will have the opportunity to talk with military veterans of World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War, as well as Operation Desert Storm and Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans. Reps from local veteran organizations will be present, and a collection of personal care items such as disposable razors, toothpaste, feminine hygiene products, eye drops, etc., will be received to donate to active military serving overseas. Veterans and active duty military are free and military families will receive 50% off admission. www.neam.org

Turtle Power! Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles & Samurai Heroes at the Springfield Museums through May 14. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, meet your samurai ancestors! Hilltown Families Event

The Nields, Pioneer Valley folk and rock favorites, will perform a special show for all ages at a Saturday Morning Music Party fundraiser for Hilltown Families and the Flywheel Arts Collective on Saturday, November 19, from 10am-12noon at Flywheel (43 Main St.) in Easthampton, MA. Doors open at 10am with a free pancake breakfast, followed by a family performance by The Nields from 11am-12noon. Admission is $12/Adult; $6/Kids ages 3-6; $35/Families of 4 or more. Infants-2: Free.) All proceeds benefit Hilltown Families and Flywheel, two Western Massachusetts nonprofits.

This event is supported in part by a grant from the Easthampton Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.

Children’s Fair & Open House: Come to the Montessori School of Northampton’s annual Children’s Fair and Open House on Saturday, October 22 Sunday, October 23 from 11am-3pm. The fun includes arts and crafts, a petting zoo, bounce house, obstacle course, and much more. Entertainment will be provided by Tony Vacca, Tom Knight & Burchie Green, Chris Scanlon, and DJ Quin. This free, daylong celebration for all ages includes screenings of short films by the Center’s Wexler Oral History Project, including Leonard Nimoy’s Mame-loshn: A Yiddish Story; a cabaret-style concert of Yiddish songs old and new by Di Shekhter-tekhter: The Schaechter Sisters and Binyumen; guided tours of the Center’s permanent exhibits; hands-on demonstrations in the reproduction Yiddish print shop; and the opening of Balka’s Lower East Side, a multi-artist visiting exhibit focusing on the experiences of immigrants in that New York neighborhood. An interactive theater family event is being held Oct 14-16 at Valley View Farm in Haydenville. You and your children can free the world from the great dragon by working with the elves, fairies and dwarves to solve riddles that will give the forest back to its people. This will be a Halloween adventure that you and your family will always remember. Shows depart every 15 minutes for a 45 minute production. Please arrive ready to travel 1/2 mile through Valley View Farm’s grounds and bring a flashlight for the evening shows. Show times are Oct 14 & 15 from 5:30-8:30pm and on Oct 16 from 2-5pm. The CT River Valley NEA Big Read of Into the Beautiful North kicks-off with a “Spirit of Place” Community Event at Greenfield Community College on Saturday, October 15, beginning with a 10am performance by two-time GRAMMY winning storyteller/musician, Bill Harley; followed by a morning of placemaking: hands-on learning stations exploring our community’s traditions through art, music, dance, history, and literature. All are welcome at a community meal beginning at 11:45am. Meal and morning events are FREE. An afternoon conference for adults begins at 1pm with a keynote by Hilltown Families’ Sienna Wildfield, followed by interdisciplinary panel discussions. Celebrate fall at the Common School’s Children’s Carnival, Saturday, October 15, from 10am-2pm, at 521 South Pleasant Street in Amherst. Connecticut Trolley Museum will hold their Pumpkin Patch event starting Oct 7 and will run the rest of the month every Fri, Sat & Sun including Monday, Oct 10 for Columbus Day. Pumpkin Patch is a family fun filled adventure where you ride on a trolley car out to the pumpkin patch and each child can pick out a free pumpkin. Additionally, when you return back to the Museum you can decorate the pumpkins, get your face painted & enjoy the outside play area with spooktacular Halloween activities. Don’t forget you can take as many Trolley rides as you would like. Visit www.ct-trolley.org for hours of operation. Admission is $10 for adults, $9 for seniors, $8 for youth (ages 2-12) and $3 for child (under age 2). East Windsor, CT.

Oct 14-16

An interactive theater family event is being held Oct 14-16 at Valley View Farm in Haydenville. You and your children can free the world from the great dragon by working with the elves, fairies and dwarves to solve riddles that will give the forest back to its people. This will be a Halloween adventure that you and your family will always remember. Shows depart every 15 minutes for a 45 minute production. Please arrive ready to travel 1/2 mile through Valley View Farm’s grounds and bring a flashlight for the evening shows. Show times are Oct 14 & 15 from 5:30-8:30pm and on Oct 16 from 2-5pm. Food trucks will also be there: Holyoke Hummus, Beets & Barley, GoBerry, Mission Cantina! Buy tickets at farmtheater.com, also at State St and Coopers.

The CT River Valley NEA Big Read of Into the Beautiful North kicks-off with a “Spirit of Place” Community Event at Greenfield Community College on Saturday, October 15, beginning with a 10am performance by two-time GRAMMY winning storyteller/musician, Bill Harley; followed by a morning of placemaking: hands-on learning stations exploring our community’s traditions through art, music, dance, history, and literature. All are welcome at a community meal beginning at 11:45am. Meal and morning events are FREE. An afternoon conference for adults begins at 1pm with a keynote by Hilltown Families’ Sienna Wildfield, followed by interdisciplinary panel discussions. Celebrate fall at the Common School’s Children’s Carnival, Saturday, October 15, from 10am-2pm, at 521 South Pleasant Street in Amherst. Enjoy old-fashioned activities, games, and entertainment, including a bounce house, and live music. Admission is free; games and activities have a small fee. Breakfast, hearty lunches, and treats such as cotton candy, homemade baked goods, and smoothies will be available for purchase. The Academy at Charlemont (1359 Route 2 in Charlemont, MA) will host an Admissions Open House for interested families on Sunday, October 16, with presentations beginning at 1pm. Take a workshop in beekeeping, seed saving and fiber arts. Meet the animals that live on the farm. Explore the gardens, woods, streams and fields that the students care for, work on and learn about. This event is for current families and those wishing to learn more about the school. A bountiful, locally grown snack will be served! Experience Hartsbrook’s rich, hands-on curriculum firsthand and imagine the possibilities for your child. The Hartsbrook School is located at 193 Bay Rd. in Hadley. The 55th Annual Conway Festival of the Hills is on Sunday, October 2 from 10am-4pm, rain or shine. Enjoy live music, the famed “skillet toss,” craft fair, parade, log splitting contest, art, blacksmithing, weaving, local products, and of course, yummy food, freshly pressed cider and fried dough with maple cream! For the kids, a hay maze, hill slide, children’s book signing, and lots of free activities. Sign up for the Covered Bridge Classic or Kids Fun Run! The festival is located in historic Conway center, Route 116, 8 minutes from Route 91 in Deerfield. Admission, parking, and almost all activities are free. Celebrate the end the week with a joyful morning of music and movement with Felicia Sloin and Amy Meltzer – especially for ages 0-5. The Food Bank of Western Massachusetts’ annual Will Bike 4 Food charity cycling event is returning for its sixth year on Sunday, Sept. 25 in Hatfield. You can pedal towards a hunger free community by riding in this fun event as an individual or forming a team with your friends, family and coworkers. With 4 routes to choose from (10, 25, 50 or 100 miles), riders of all ages can get involved. There will be music, food, beverages, games and more. Last year’s event raised $100,000 to help feed our neighbors in need. You can make this year’s event even more successful.
