Dance off the mid-winter blues this weekend! On Saturday, March 14, from 10am-12noon, Hilltown Families and Flywheel will finish our beloved ‘Saturday Morning Music Party‘ series with a final community breakfast bash for the winter, featuring pancake, dancing, and diversions for kids at Flywheel Arts Collective in Easthampton. Following the pancake breakfast, DJ Youthelectronix will be spinning family dance tunes for the “best ever dance party before noon!” Save on the babysitter and celebrate mid-Winter with a Saturday Morning Music Party! Cirque Flip Fabrique: Blizzard. Wednesday, March 18, 7:30pm, UMass Amherst Fine Arts Center Concert Hall. Blizzard is the story of a group of friends, each one different from the other, like snowflakes, exploring the awe and wonder of a winter storm. Through the lens of their relationship with winter, Cirque Flip Fabrique brings audiences on a crazy, fun, poetic and tender journey, and invites you to get lost in a moment of winter wonder. With some of the most exciting circus performers today, all original music performed live and breathtaking visual poetry, Blizzard is taking the stage by storm! $20-$45; Youth 17 & Under: $10-$15. Northampton High School presents The Sound of Music on Thursday, March 19-Saturday, March 21, with performances every evening at 7pm and a Saturday matinee at 2pm. This family-friendly show will be performed in the Northampton High School auditorium and features a cast of 50 students and a 25-piece orchestra! Advance tickets are highly recommended. The Putney School Summer Arts. Putney, VT. The Putney School Summer Arts hosts summer arts workshops in June and July for high school students and a one-week workshop for adults in August. Create and connect through art. Dive deep into workshops and join a wildly creative community on a hilltop farm in Vermont. About a hundred students attend each three-week session, and workshops are capped at 12 students, fostering a close-knit community of young artists. Students come to discover a form, others to hone their practice, and all connect with the faculty and make use of the resources on campus. Kids, Art & Nature. Amherst, MA. Children in Deborah Bazer & Lahri Bond’s week-long, themed Summer Art classes explore the natural world through the visual arts. Drawing from many traditions, they nurture the creative, intellectual, and emotional growth of the children in their care. Visual arts, storytelling, and environmental education are all integral parts of their summer classes. Summer session is from 8:30am-3:30pm, Mon-Fri at the Arts Barn on the beautiful Hampshire College campus and woods. Classes included: making art with nature, ceramics, faeries & myths, papercraft, superheroes, dinosaurs, dragons, and using fantasy gaming ideas to create real-world environments. Summer Program For Children at Eaglebrook School. Deerfield, MA. Holistic learning and play with Bill Stewart. Craft an original show in 2 weeks and perform it on the Percival Theater stage. Students of theater will work on their stage craft through theater games, improvisation, character work, stage combat, and voice. In past summers, this program has worked on plays from ancient myth and classic works with an original twist, such The Odyssey, The Miser, Hamlet, Macbeth, and Romeo and Juliet, as well as new works blending well-known characters and story elements with creative, original arcs. Starting February 15 at the Northampton Center of the Arts, The Fun of Failure & Acting as Play! In this two-part 8-week, acting class, students will move through a series of ensemble games before diving into scene work. This class will strengthen students’ ability to listen and work together, to be generous with others and themselves, vulnerable enough to find fun in failure and to always lead with hope, regardless of the inevitable disasters laid out in the text. Skills gained in this class can be applied to many aspects of life outside the theatre, including leadership, self-confidence, and community/civic engagement. Open to ages 16-18. WinterFest Amherst is the “Pioneer Valley’s Largest Winter Carnival!” Celebrate the season with fellow Amherst residents. On Saturday, February 1, these week-long festivities will kick-off with the Luminaria on the Town Commons, a public display of over 1,500 flickering luminarias, and end the week with the signature Grand Finale events. GuGu Drum Group From Shanghai. Tuesday, February 11, 7:30pm, UMass Fine Arts Center Concert Hall in Amherst, MA. This award-winning percussion group from Shanghai presents a theatrical drama depicting historical and culturally significant drum compositions showcasing the various percussive instruments used in ancient drum music. Featuring drum vignettes based on timeless Chinese proverbs, fables, and fairy tales, this performance highlights the human evolution, awareness, social commitment, and communication that ancient drumming has as its history. Luminaria 2020Fire & Ice is a kickoff event for the week-long WinterFest in downtown Amherst, sponsored by the Amherst Downtown BID. In its 3rd year, the Luminaria is bigger, better, brighter, warmer. This fantastic and free event happens on Sat, Feb 1 from 5-8pm on the Town Common features fire juggling and performance by Matica Circus, live music with Cajordian, a whimsical busking-honed duo, which plays instrumental pop music on cajon and accordion, and the Amherst College A Capella group, the DQ. Food & drink available outside at 30 Boltwood and Holyoke Hummus Food Truck. Live Ice Sculpting starts the evening. This fantastic and free event happens on Sat, Feb 1 from 5-8pm on the Town Common features fire juggling and performance by Matica Circus, live music with Cajordian, a whimsical busking-honed duo, which plays instrumental pop music on cajon and accordion, and the Amherst College A Capella group, the DQ. Food & drink available outside at 30 Boltwood and Holyoke Hummus Food Truck. Live Ice Sculpting starts the evening. WinterFest Amherst is the “Pioneer Valley’s Largest Winter Carnival!” Celebrate the season with fellow Amherst residents. On Saturday, February 1, these week-long festivities will kick-off with the Luminaria on the Town Commons, a public display of over 1,500 flickering luminarias, and end the week with the signature Grand Finale events. Make sure to keep an eye on their online calendar since it will be jam-packed with 35+ more events throughout the week, including Ice Skating Performances, Hockey Games, Sledding, Live Music Events, Art Classes, and much more. Amherst Leisure Services Community Theater (ALSCT) presents Roald Dahl’s Matilda The Musical! The Pioneer Valley Symphony Youth Orchestra offers a dynamic & supportive ensemble environment for talented musicians in middle & high school. Directed by Steven Bathory-Peeler, PVSYO performs in 2 standalone concerts and also collaborates with the Pioneer Valley Symphony Orchestra. Chamber ensemble opportunities are also offered. Holiday Vacation Programs: With schools out for the holidays, the New England Air Museum is hosting a series of daily interactive workshops. Activities will be offered from 10:30am-2:30pm each day and are included with admission (unless otherwise noted). Workshops include Lunar Landscape Painting (12/26), 1st Annual LEGO Brick Aircraft Contest (12/27), Marshmallow Constellations (12/28), Straw Rocket Challenge (12/29), and a Model Airplane Workshop & Demonstrations (12/30). Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration revels in the return of the sun with a show full of music, dance, song, and story to drive the dark away. A myth of the importance of music in our lives is told with the help of magical beasts in the form of puppets. The show includes traditional songs and dances along with new material from Rose Sheehan, Welcome Yule’s founder and Colin De la Barre. Pioneer Valley Ballet presents the beloved holiday classic, The Nutcracker! Join Clara as she battles the Rat King to save the Nutcracker Prince, then travel through the enchanted Snow Forest and beautiful Kingdom of Sweets. Welcome Yule: A Midwinter Celebration revels in the return of the sun with a show full of music, dance, song, and story to drive the dark away. A myth of the importance of music in our lives is told with the help of magical beasts in the form of puppets. The show includes traditional songs and dances along with new material from Rose Sheehan, Welcome Yule’s founder and Colin De la Barre. Enjoy the Abbots Bromley Horn dance, a sword dance, the now-familiar carols, a mummers play, and the passing of the yule log. The Shea Theater, Turners Falls, MA. Santa’s Trains at Look Park: 
A holiday tradition for the whole family! Enjoy a magical evening with Santa, Mrs. Claus and their favorite elves. The Garden House will be transformed into a beautiful train station. On Saturday, December 14, join the Museum for a festive open house from 1-4pm.
